What makes us different?

Lesson planning takes time. The last thing you want is to make your life more complicated by having to learn how to program some new gadget or test a
teaching aid before rolling it out in a classroom.

We believe that the future of education publishing for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,  Arts and Maths) lies in providing class-ready tools to go with published learning content.

Find reliable, economical teaching tools

Half an hour on the internet reveals that there are plenty of tools out there at a wide range of price points. If you buy a cheaper version of something you like do you know it will deliver adequate performance? Will it be sufficiently durable? We have put many tools to the test and we do not feature equipment or suppliers that fail to meet our fundamental standards in durability, value for money, ease of use and supplier reliability.

SUMMARY

  • kits are tested on children in classrooms; they work
  • parts in the kits have been selected on reliability and price
  • the kits come with a teaching guide and many come with lesson plans across a range of year levels

Senses Kit

This kit combines miracle berry extract with snap-together electronics to provide a lesson on human senses that delivers a real punch.

Whenever we have taken this kit to the classroom the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

The only complaint we have heard from students is “why can’t all science classes be this much fun?” Well, in short, they can.

Note:
Due to demand orders for this kit have outstripped supply. Our current wait time is 6-8 weeks. What can we say? It’s popular, and we are working hard to shorten the wait time.

Geometry kit

Targeted at a pre-school audience this geometry kit is designed to help young students understand shapes in 2 and 3 dimensions. We found that smart boards, videos and renderings had less impact on student learning than interacting with physical items. To add interest we have embedded magnets into the shapes so that they can be easily stuck and pulled from a whiteboard.

For us this was not enough and we have created some shapes that will really get students thinking in 3 dimensions by cleverly bisecting one shape with another.

Shapes included in the kit are: open and closed cylinders, disk, hexagonal  tube, sphere, two hemispheres, ring-shaped torus, doughnut-shaped torus, ball and socket (per shoulder joint), tetrahedron, square flat shape, cube, icosahedron, square pyramid, octahedron, dodecahedron, pointy cone, bell shaped cone (paraboloid of revolution), cuboid (box shape), triangular prism, the perpendicular bisection of two cylinders, a (flat) trapezoid, a (flat) rectangle, a (flat) 5-sided star, a (flat) parabola, a (flat) equilateral triangle, a (flat) isosceles triangle, a (flat) kite shape, and a (flat) pentagon shape.

Due to feedback from our customers we will also be offering these sets in two sizes (one where most shapes fit within a 3cm circle and one where most shapes fit within a 5cm circle).

We have also been toying with the idea of including some other shapes that commonly occur in a child’s environment such as nuts and bolts, latches and clips.

Many of the design files that we are using were created while developing a training kit for 3d printing. In that sense, this product ties in directly to another kit and demonstrates how easy it is to create teaching materials from scratch, if you have the time and a bit of a “leg-up” into 3d design.

Sprk Robot

SPRK is simple enough for beginners of all ages, yet sophisticated enough for seasoned programmers. The SPRK community is thriving as thousands of kids shape their future through fun and discovery. Fire up your imagination and break the rules about learning.

Earth Science Kit

Did you know that you can shine light through rock? With this kit you will, and the colours will amaze even the most disengaged student.

The kit comes with a cross polarising light frame, a microscope, ten carefully chosen rocks (a wide range of rocks with the best stories to tell), and a shipping box that doubles as a display case.
